Hotel Penaga in Penang – Luxury Boutique Property in the Heart of Georgetown

From the moment I walked through the doors and into the eclectic mix of art deco décor at Hotel Penaga, I could imagine what it must have been like back in the 1920s.  Lovely stained glass windows followed me as I walked from the bold geometric floors onto a natural footpath through flowering trees to the Transfer Suite.  This is a wonderfully restored luxury boutique property located just on the edge of the UNESCO protected world heritage site, in heart of downtown Georgetown.

Why You’ll Love Hotel Penaga

  • Transfer Suites are quiet and charming, with wonderfully curated antiques inside and an open balcony perfect for sipping your morning coffee
  • Cinnamon Restaurant and Bar is 100% for foodies.  I ate so well there, and enjoyed a few of the best lemongrass martinis I’ve ever sipped!
  • The location is perfect for exploring the historic areas of Penang

Transfer Suite 1

Up a flight of stairs awaits a quaint retreat from the hustle and bustle of downtown Georgetown.  Mine had two terraces (one for sunbathing with a big lounge chair), a cozy living room where the television sits, a large bathroom with wraparound natural light and a round stained glass window, and a bedroom filled with antiques.  I slept really well my entire stay and woke to the sound of birds chirping in the garden below.  It was amazing!

Cinnamon Restaurant & Bar

Oh. My. Gawd.  I was in foodie paradise there at Hotel Penaga, just look at the pics!  They offer up an amazing mix of local and international dishes, all prepared with the best sourced ingredients and absolutely tasty.  From slow-cooked salmon that was so tender it was almost like butter to a decadent rose petal cheesecake I was hap-hap-happy (and put on weight!) during my entire stay.  Oh and the bar?  They made fresh-in-the-moment lemongrass martinis that will knock your socks off that use freshly blended and strained lemongrass, which is turns out makes all the difference in the world.

Penega Spa

Watch the video for a run down of my experience, with a post-treatment account of it all.  I enjoyed the 90 minute Baba & Nyonya foot ritual that left my legs like new again, it was incredible.  The treatment rooms feel very much like the suites and smell divine.  My only regret is that I didn’t try one of their baths, so try that when you’re booking your appointment please.  Check out their spa packages here.
