It took 1 seaplane, 3 traditional flights, 2 buses, and 3 taxis to get from a very chilled Maldives trip recently to Papua New Guinea for a speaking gig. While some of it was magical, like the seaplane ride where the pilots were barefoot or the treat of having wine served on flights again outside of Malaysia … other bits of it like the 2 back-to-back nights of red eye flights were not so fab.
But this is an honest side of travel that most international travellers, bloggers, vloggers, and digital nomads face more often than we’d love to admit.
Come along with me from the Maldives, to quickly repack at home in Kuala Lumpur, to Singapore, and finally on to Papua New Guinea. I was not the one to book my flights and needless to say I’ll not do this to myself again anytime soon if I can help it. Staying healthy is important when we travel and it’s pretty hard when there’s very little time for sleep, especially when the duration of a travel day turns into two!
Big thanks to Soneva Fushi and Four Seasons Maldives for the wonderful pampering in your lounges during my almost 5-hour wait at the Male Airport.
